Lemons to Margaritas: Learning from mistakes
The Swag Bag Chronicles: A Slightly Bougie Reality Check
Listen…
You ever hype something up so much in your head, only for reality to humble you real quick? That was me with these swag bags. I had the vision—the perfect detail to introduce Slightly Bougie to the world. Then I opened the box and saw it… Slightly BougLe. The “I” had packed its bags and left the chat, and suddenly my chic, thoughtful branding was giving unintentional rebrand. And the wildest part? I stare at this logo every day. Yet somehow, I missed it.
But mistakes happen, and I found a fix-ish. I don’t love it but I can tweak the design so the “L” actually reads as an “I.” It leaves a bit of a gap, but we’re making it work.
More importantly, I’ve put a few processes in place to make sure this doesn’t happen again—because while one day I will laugh about it, I’m not trying to make typos a brand signature. I hold myself and my brand to a higher standard. I am setting some company procedures in place, tightening up my check and balance process, in effort to ensure I don’t make the same mistake twice. Lessons learned.
Hard. lesson. learned!
At the end of the day, the socks are right, the brand is launching, and this is just one of those stories I’ll tell years from now. Because things will go wrong, but we adjust, move forward, and keep building.
