The Founder

Clarisa “Riss” Thompson’s journey to creating Slightly Bougie began as a deeply personal exploration of identity & self-expression.

Growing up, Riss found ways to assert her individuality and style, often through one accessible & expressive accessory… socks.

  • Her career in HR and diversity leadership exposed her to the complexities of inclusion and the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels seen.

    During the pandemic, as she sought balance through Pilates, she noticed a gap: the socks available lacked personality, inspiration, and a sense of identity. This sparked an idea: what if socks could be more than functional? What if they could be empowering, expressive, and inclusive?

    Riss’s determination led her across the globe to China, where she personally collaborated with manufacturers to perfect her vision and launch the Slight Bougie Sock Company.
