Launch Weekend, Peloton, and the Tears That Keep Coming
I don’t know if it’s life in your 40s, stepping fully into entrepreneurship, or the weight of this moment—but your girl cries over everything now.
Launch weekend was big. Bigger than I even allowed myself to dream.
Standing in the Peloton studio for the first time, I felt the kind of overwhelming emotion that sneaks up on you—the kind that makes you tighten your buns before you even realize what’s happening. Imposter syndrome tried to tap me on the shoulder, whispering that maybe I should turn around. But I had a secret weapon: my socks—my brand. My little nuggets of confidence that, time and time again, have reminded me who TF I am.
And then I stepped inside.
The energy was electric. The room was filled with Black women—strong, powerful, fully present. Women who looked like me. Women who carried the same fire. Women who knew the unspoken truths of moving through this world. For a moment, I just stood there, taking it all in.
We talked about duality— the richness of being multifaceted. It’s the art of being slightly bougie—just enough to appreciate new experiences and explore new things, yet never so much that it diminishes our authentic roots. Strong andsoft. Confident and uncertain. Grounded and still reaching higher. A work in progress and already THAT girl.
Then Jess asked us to choose a word that defined how we saw ourselves in that moment.
I looked down and saw Jess wearing my socks—Slightly Bougie Socks. My dream, my brand, my own step into something bigger than myself.
My word? Resilient.
And just like that, the imposter syndrome melted away. I was standing firm, grounded in the moment, in my socks, in my purpose. Looking good, feeling good, and taking it all in.
Entrepreneurship is wild. Some days, you’re fighting doubt. Other days, you’re seeing your vision come to life in ways you never expected. And sometimes, you’re just a 42-year-old woman standing in a Peloton studio, realizing that you belong—that you’ve built something real.
Black History Month is about celebrating who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going. And that day at Peloton wasn’t just a workout. It was a full-circle moment. A reminder that we carry greatness in every step, every movement, every connection.
And if you’re doing it in a good pair of socks? Even better.
And YES! I knew it was a great day when, after leaving the Peloton studio and walking back to my hotel, I stumbled right into a White Castle—proof that it was a good day.
